The CEO of Barnes and Noble and his wife have a teenage daughter (Melissa Riggio) with Down Syndrome. Most of the Barnes and Noble stores across the nation have chosen a day in February or March as Down Syndrome Recognition Day. Melissa participated in this day at one of the stores in New York.
Abby was asked to read the book “We’ll Paint the Octopus Red” February 24th at a store in Sugar Land, Texas. The book is about a little girl whose baby brother is born with Down Syndrome. Abby read the book, told the group a little about her and helped the children attending the event with their crafts.
Barnes & Noble has asked Abby to return on a quarterly basis for their Saturday reading hour!
